What a weekend!
So after many weekends of being couch potatoes, we made up for it this weekend. We started off by going Blueberry picking around the area. Yum! We had to crawl through thick bushes and trip in holes to get to the prime spots (aka, the spots people hadn’t found yet.) We found a good spot and taught Ruckus how to eat the berries right off the bushes, he was getting pretty good at it, but preferred to just beg from us. We ended up getting a good batch and came home with purple lips and hands.
Saturday we went into town to go hiking. First we stopped at the DMV where I finally got my Alaska drivers license! Took me long enough, but I had trouble getting a document with my physical address on it, since everything is mailed to PO boxes here. Passed my test no problem and now can apply for the PFD next spring! Yay, money! We then drove up to the trailhead to go hiking with the Ruckus. First problem we encountered was the fairly large parking lot to be completely full. There were cars and people everywhere. 2nd problem was the sign that said “Pets must be leashed”. Did we bring Ruckus’ leash? Of course not. Why would we want to leash him when he does so well off the leash? So we said forget it, and decided we would check it out again when Dylan’s mom and grandma are here in a few weeks. The view from up there is awesome, so let’s hope for a clear day!
Since we were already in Anchorage, we figured we would do a little bit of shopping. So we went to Target to buy an antenna and a notebook and walked out with an antenna, Wii, Wii Fit, Black Ops for Dylan, Rayman’s Rabbids for me, an extra Wii mote (in PINK!), and no notebook. It came with some good deals too, the Wii came with 2 games, and the Wii fit came with an extra game as well. I wouldn’t say it was completely impulsive since we have had it on our wish list for awhile now, but buying it this weekend was definitely impulsive! (and I still need to buy a notebook!)
Sunday we went hiking up Crow Pass.
We were going to hike the 8 mile round trip to the Pass, but the weather was kind of rainy and pretty chilly so we hiked out to the old mine ruins and the waterfall instead.
It was a great hike and very beautiful out there!
We saw a Dall Sheep on the other side of the valley, but it was too far away to get a decent picture.
We have a lot to look forward in the upcoming month! Dylan’s mom and grandma will be here on the 18th for a week visit! I am so excited to see them and get to explore Alaska with them! We have some fun touristy things planned that we would never do if we didn’t have visitors. Then on Sept 3 we will be flying to Cali to visit Danielle and Sandy for a few days and on the 8th we fly home for 2 weeks, so I can be in Michelle’s wedding!! I’m pretty pumped to be seeing family and friends soon, I can’t wait to hit the beaches and enjoy the sunshine and warmth! (Did I mention it’s been raining for the past week here? And it snowed at the tops of the mountains!)
This is so beautiful! I cannot WAIT to come see you. Did I tell you that my Alaska Jar is already full to the top?! :)
